Add a new tech giant to your portfolio. It looks like Reddit is ready to go public. In a press release last week, the company has revealed that it has filed paperwork with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, "relating to the proposed initial public offering of its common stock." The release didn't indicate how many shares would be released or the price, but given that the social media platform recently raised $700 million back in August (and boasts of a valuation of over $10 billion), it's looking like the right time for the tech company to finally take the plunge nearly 17 years after it was founded. Stock market musings and tech IPOs aside, we know you're here for new product news. Whether you're digging the Windeler's super slim redesign of the multitool like we are, scoping out The North Face Purple Label's Spring/Summer 2022 lookbook or drooling over a chance to own Gérald Genta's original Royal Oak, welcome to Today in Gear.

If you've ever carried (or even held) a traditional Swiss Army Knife, you know that bulk is often the price you pay when for the convenience of carrying every tool you need in one folder. Windeler has slimmed down the multi-tool using a stainless steel-coated neodymium magnet to attach each tool to the rest of the stack, resulting in a thinner overall profile. We love the Extra Stak, which includes a pry bar, a bottle opener, two screwdrivers and a Monolight folder blade — all stacking up to an 18mm profile and 110g total weight.

Olivers' new shacket has us already hoping for spring (yes, we know it's December).

Olivers

Olivers' already has a robust fanbase thanks to its stylish, minimal and — frankly — practical gear. The brand's Gold Coast Shirt Jacket (or "shacket," let's be honest) is made from Merino wool twill weave and is moisture-wicking, water-resistant and anti-microbial. That's perfect for spring mornings (or hot climate Christmases), where you need a bit of insulation in the early light... before the day suddenly switches to sunny and hot.

Watch out Chrome and Firefox: DuckDuckGo unveils new look at privacy-focused desktop web browser.

DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo has always been a search engine focused on providing results without making compromises when it comes to users' privacy needs. While it's not going to have the same level of protection as, say, using a VPN, the browser is designed to be, "an everyday browsing app that respects your privacy," according to CEO Gabriel Weinberg. The interface is intentionally cleaner than major competitors (stripping out "unnecessary cruft and clutter that’s accumulated over the years in major browsers") and has been tested to operate faster than Chrome.

The North Face Purple Label showcases its Spring 2022 collection, inspired by Japan's "Heavy Duty" style tribe.

The North Face

You're likely familiar with Japan's history in preserving "Ivy Style," but Japan also nurtured a subculture called "Heavy Duty." Inspired by outdoorsy American college students in the 1970s, it's a blend of prep and traditional hiking style (and kind of like a precursor to today's gorpcore). The North Face Purple Label's Spring/Summer 2022 collection continues in that subculture's legacy in a modern way, dropping military and hiking trousers and utility parkas, alongside tie-dye tees and colorful collared shirts. Keep it locked to Purple Label's Instagram as more info drops in the coming weeks.

Designed by iconic (and beloved) watch designer Gérald Genta, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is responsible for creating and defining the "luxury sport watch" category following its initial release in 1972, and has remained high in demand ever since. The opportunity to own the very first iteration — the Royal Oak owned by Genta himself — is an opportunity many will not want to miss. The watch is coming up for auction at Sotheby's this May as a loose extension of the "Gérald Genta: Icon of Time" event. The only remaining question is simple: How high will the final bid be?
